Hi all. I am posting this topic wondering what most people use on this site to block spyware. I have used addware, spy Bot, and Spy Sweeper. None of these seem to work with jaws 7.0. Can someone give me ideas about what is accessible?
Thanks.
I use spybot with jfw7 just fine (though it does take some jaws curser work.) Also there are some scripts that were made to work with the newer version of adaware, though I honestly don't remember where they are. If you want some help using either of these, feel free to contact me, and I'll be glad to help.
I use all three programs you mentioned, and they're all accessible. You do have to do some Jaws cursor work, but if you're willing to do that, you should be able to navigate all of those programs.
Whare do you get spie sweeper at so that ZI can try it on my computwer.
Thanks.
I understand the jaws curser work. but when i get done scanning the files on addaware i can not get to the list of what is infected to delete them. Can you give me more help on this?
Thanks. O and also don't remember where i got spy sweeper from. I think it was given to me. Sorry.
I have a program called Spyware Doctor and use JAWS 5.0, and it works pretty good with it so far. Actually, I'll still need to pay so that I have full access to it, but installing it and scanning my computer was easy. Also, I read a review for that program on http://www.accesswatch.info/, and learned that most of it is very accessable. You can download it for free but to have full access is not for free like I mentioned, but if I can easily use it with JAWS, I wouldn't mind paying, as that would be worth it. As far as the free ones, I've only used Spybot and Ad-Aware and really can't say much on those programs, as they were frustrating to use, at least for me anyway. SO I haven't used those two in awhile.
i do not have any old jersions of jaws. will it work with 7?
It should. That's another thing I think that makes it hard to find free software like this I think. But yeah, I'm sure if my JAWS version works with this, the newer ones should definitely work with it. *smiles*
Thanks I will go there and check it out. I don't need ful access I just need to be able to scan my computer for spieware.
where do you go get spydoctor?
You can get Spyware Doctor at www.pctools.com . They are also the company who makes it.
also though it is free, can you delete your files that are infected?
Unfortunately, I've tried to do that, but I don't think you can. I don't know whether or not it'll do it automatically anyway, but yeah, that's the downside to it. You can look for spyware, but I don't think you can do much else with it unless you pay for the License thing. I like that it is easily accessible though, but yeah. If I wanted to do more with it I'd have to buy it. Apparently, it is still running on my computer though, and I haven't had any big problems with my computer yet. But then, I'm also running that AVG Antivirus and Zone Alarm Firewall, so that might be why too.
What about spy sweeper do you have to pay to have that on your computer and is there one other than addaware and spybot that are free to use to do it all?
hey tinkerbell. i tryed that and can't delete anything. that is what i want to do. you can with addiware but the damn thing is not very accessible.
we have scripts for addiware that are for jaws 6.0 but work fine with 7. they also will give you all the hot keys by hitting jaws key h for help. you can delete the files that are infected without paying and also check what kibnds of risks you want it to look for. you may get these by going to http://www.accessibleprograms.com/adaware/adaware.htm hope it works out and helps solve this issues.
Hi all,
I just installed adaware on friday. I had to scan 3 times, but that was because I couldn't remember all of the keystrokes, and couldn't get to the files unless I'd just done a scan. on this last time, I remembered the keystrokes necessary to get to the critical objects. I couldn't believe on my first scan I had 16 critical objects, mostly tracking cookies, but I had one that said, coulomnb dialer. I pressed the context key to get details on it, and it said, porn dialer, that's all. Does anyone know how serious tac 5 is. For those who don't know, tac means threat accessment chart. All the others were tac 3, but that one was 5. The scripts on the whitestick and jfwlite sites are out of date, and are for older versions, like 4.5, and I think 5.0. I'm a supporting member on vipconduit, and there are some tutorials and the download links for adaware and the up to date scripts. As for spybot, I'm scared of that one. According to start button, you can get through it as a blind person, but if it finds any critical spyware, you have to restart your computer, and jaws acts funky, his word, not mine. So apparently if it finds critical spyware, jaws goes crazy, so I'm not in a hurry to try that one, but I do have adaware now.

I used add-aware with the scripts and works great, but with my new pc I got a payed retailed version of pest patrol which works fine with jaws7 and I've also used it with 6. It does require some cursor work though which I feel isn't a big deal.

I don't know what people have against paying for good spyware or other security programmes. The idea that everything on the internet must be free went out of the window years ago. spyware doctor will, in the free version, only notify you of the spyware on your system, not delete it, to delete it, you need to pay. I believe it is a yearly subscription, rather than a one time payment. spyware doctor is great with jaws seven, though there is some jaws curser work. and if you're looking for a good regestery cleaner, pctools.com do a decent one of those which is accessible with the jaws curser too.
A lot of "pay-for" programs care more about charging the user than they do providing a decent service. Not to say that free is always better, but many pay-for programs are a ripoff, and a waste of your time.
well, I'm an advocate for free whenever it's available. I have adaware, which is free, and I have avg free addition antivirus. It's one thing to pay a one time fee of say, 20 or 30 dollars, but I don't like the idea of having to pay a yearly fee to keep the virus things updated. if it's free, I'll use it.

agreed definitely.
hey go to trend micro's site hold on i will get the link from an e-mail that my resident hall techy dude gave me for house call i think it will fix it www.trendmicro.com .
there is the link if that doesnt help let me know and i will ask him for more info
I saw a review of trend micro 2006 and I was quiet imprest I don't really want to pay just to keep my defenistions updated. I have been using avg free adation for over a year and it gets the job.
i bought avg corprit and got norton off of my system avg found two viruses norton did not find ad aware works with me i have jaws 7 on this system and am ok i think i mean heck i can work with it that all that matters
I haven't had avg very long, but I haven't had the computer very long either. I update it when it says the virus definitions are out of date, and when that black worm thing was about to be unleashed, I didn't wait for it to tell me, I updated before it was supposed to hit. I did a system scan once, a few days ago, and it only took 17 minutes.

I leave mine set that way as well.
maybe you have a bigger hard drive. I have an 80 gb hard drive.
Hi
I recently posted a review of using add aware and spybot, which can be found on www.blindcooltech.com.'
I describe the scanning procedures, give jaws keystrokes and the window eyes keystrokes as known. I hope you find it useful. It is a bit down the page, use your heading command until you see the spyware heading that is also a link.
Shawn
Hi shawn I will check that out and see what it looks like.
